Scouts Earn Tech Ham Licenses

On Saturday and Sunday, February 9 and 10, 2008 members of the BGMRC conducted a class for some local Scouts to qualify for their Technician-class amateur radio licenses.

These photographs were submitted by Keith Robinson W4KTR, who was one of the instructors.

These eight Scouts previously earned merit badges with the help of BGMRC members last year, and were eager to come back and earn their licenses.

The professor, Van Richardson N5VI, prepares to begin the instruction.

The class included a high-tech multimedia presentation...

...and the beautiful day outside the windows wasn't the least bit distracting.

On Sunday afternoon the test was administered (thanks to David Benoist AG4ZR and his Fayette team, with help from a couple of Coweta VEs) and the would-be hams lined up to find out how they did.

The top score -- in this case 35 right answers out of 35 questions -- earned one new ham a prize, an HT courtesy of the course instructors and presented by Ellis Camp W8PY. Six others also passed their tests and are members of the ham community.
